The Mariners offense was contained by Bartolo Colon, up until the third inning, which is when Ichiro Suzuki's homer put the Sox down 1-0.
The Mariners hit two more solo home runs in the third -- by Edgar Martinez and Randy Winn -- to go up 3-0, and added another two runs in the fifth with a single by Martinez. Ben Davis and Suzuki, who both singled to start the inning, scored.
The Sox had four hits and five total baserunners in the five innings, but failed on two scoring chances. The Sox had men on the corners with no outs in the first inning with a double and bunt single by D'Angelo Jimenez and Jose Valentin. However, Frank Thomas struck out and on a Magglio Ordonez fly out to right, Jimenez was thrown out at home plate.
Paul Konerko led off the fifth with a single and two batters later, after Carlos Lee struck out, Joe Crede doubled to right. Miguel Olivo grounded out to score Konerko. Willie Harris flied out to end the inning.
Colon recorded the first out in sixth before rain caused a delay, eventually leading to the game being called. Colon picked up the loss, giving up five runs off nine hits in 5 1/3 innings, while Mariners' starter Gil Meche gave up one run in five innings, earning the win.
Following the loss, the White Sox recalled righty Danny Wright and optioned lefty Josh Stewart to triple-A Charlotte.
The Sox will have Monday off before starting a three-game set against the A's in Oakland. Mark Buehrle is scheduled to pitch against fellow lefty Mark Mulder.
