Sox Fire Hitting Coach Gary Ward

Posted May 18, 2003

(SN Report #494) - After another sluggish series for the White Sox offense, scoring just six runs in three games against the Minnesota Twins, hitting coach Gary Ward was fired following Sunday's 3-2 loss.

Ward has been under the microscope since late April with the offense struggling and near the bottom of the league in both runs (12th, 173) and batting average (12th, .249).

The Sox have not announced a replacement, but two possibilities are AAA hitting coach Greg Walker and Harold Baines.
