Buehrle's Start Pushed Up; Konerko to Get His Shot

Posted Jul 4, 2003

(SN Report #553) - With the White Sox having both this past Thursday and this upcoming Monday off, manager Jerry Manuel has decided to move up Mark Buehrle's scheduled Tuesday start to Sunday, moving Jon Garland's start to Tuesday.

Manuel has yet to configure the rotation after that and what they will do with Dan Wright's upcoming start and next Saturday's double-header against the Indians. They will likely have to start Gary Glover in one of those games.

The decision will put Buehrle on four days rest and against the Devil Rays, while Garland will be pitching on seven days rest and face the Tigers. Bartolo Colon and Esteban Loaiza will remain on schedule, pitching in the first two games of the Devil Rays series.

Along with that, Paul Konerko will find himself back in the starting lineup in at least one of the three games against Tampa Bay. Manuel says the move has little to do with Konerko's game-tying, 11th-inning homer in Wednesday's win over the Twins.

In 70 games, the 27-year-old Konerko, who has been rumored to be involved in a trade for Baltimore's ACE Sidney Ponson, is batting .189 with four homers and 18 RBIs.
