The decision to call up Ginter came as a bit of a surprise considering it leaves the White Sox with just four starters. However, with a fifth starter not needed until August 1, speculation is growing that the Sox will acquire one before the July 31 trade deadline.
In 39 games with Charlotte, Ginter had 13 saves and a 2.87 ERA in 59 2/3 innings. Ginter went 2-3, struck out 45 and walked 19.
Ginter, 25, has pitched for the White Sox sporadically over the past three seasons, recording a 5.57 ERA over 103 1/3 innings and 60 relief appearances. Last season was his most productive as he had a 4.47 ERA and one save in 54 1/3 innings.
