Colon reportedly has 3 year deal on table

RHP Bartolo Colon reportedly now has a three-year, $40 million on the table as the White Sox have gone up from the $30 million deal that was offered the last week of the regular season. The organization wants to get something done with Colon before he declares for free agency and can be bid on by the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

--The Sox announced they purchased the contracts of 1B Ross Gload from Triple-A Charlotte and RHP Enemencio Pacheco from Double-A Birmingham. Gload, 27, batted .315 with 18 home runs and 70 RBI for Charlotte in 2003. Pacheco, 25, was 12-2 with a 2.56 ERA (43 ER in 151 1/3 IP) in 24 starts at Birmingham. They have 39 players on the 40-man roster.

--LHP Scott Schoeneweis will do everything he can to stretch his arm out this offseason. The Sox plan to use him as a starter next year and want to see him ready to take on that role once spring training begins.

--DH/1B Frank Thomas has been very quiet about which direction he is leaning when it comes time to decide on his option for next season. Thomas will have until a week after the World Series ends to take a $6 million option for next season or pass the option onto the club for $8 million. If they turn him down, then Thomas can become a free agent with a $2 million buyout.

--RHP Jon Garland is expected to sign a multiyear deal and avoid arbitration this spring. The two sides have started talking in the last week.

BY THE NUMBERS: .322 -- Over his last 47 games of the regular season, Joe Crede went 56-of-174 (.322) with eight home runs and 30 RBI.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Kick their (butts) so I can get Manuel's job." -- The alleged statement made by Double-A Birmingham manager Wally Backman to Twins manager Ron Gardenhire right before Minnesota faced the Sox in a big three-game series near the end of the regular season.
